Mario Kart Tour’s multiplayer doesn’t limit who you can race against; it’s open to friends and complete strangers, whether they’re nearby or around the world. If you’re playing with someone nearby, you get to choose the rules, like speed and how many item slots you have for that cup.
There are two other multiplayer modes as well, Standard and Gold. Standard is for everyone and lets you challenge anyone. It also has two sets of rules that change every day: 100cc and a default number of item slots or 100cc and two item slots. Standard matches are graded from E to A depending on how well (or abominably) you do.
It probably won’t come as a surprise to learn Gold mode is only open for Gold Pass subscribers. It offers four sets of rules that change daily:
150cc and default item slots 150cc and two item slots 200cc and default item slots 200cc and one item slots
Match ranks for Gold range from E to S, and it’s billed as the ideal way to test your skills against the best of the best.
Each multiplayer cup pulls three courses from the current featured cup. That featured cup changes every 15 minutes, so there should be plenty of variety to keep things interesting for a while.
